Operations designed to support performance, not constrain it.

We work alongside leaders to reduce friction, clarify who owns what, and make delivery consistent as the organisation grows, changes, or restructures.

Operational effectiveness is as much about behaviour as it is about process. We help leaders simplify structure, clarify accountability, and agree ways of working that hold once we have gone.

Previous clients include The Restaurant Group, wagamama, PizzaExpress, Pret A Manger, Merlin Entertainment, Picsolve, and Tuckers Solicitors.

Before 1080 Consulting, our work at Whitbread, Laurel Pub Co and Stonegate Inns standardised back of house operations across Beefeater and Brewers Fayre, and introduced shared payment, stock, and ordering solutions across an entire division.

What This Delivers

Clear accountability and decision ownership
Processes that support pace and consistency
Less friction between teams and functions

The aim is dependable performance, built on roles people understand and routines they keep.

Typical Impact

  • Faster decisions and fewer bottlenecks

  • Greater confidence at leadership and operational levels

  • Changes that stay in place

  • Better collaboration across functions

In practice: The Restaurant Group

Getting menu changes and product substitutions to every site, on time

At The Restaurant Group, every menu change and food product substitution had to reach sites through a complicated process that crossed functions and systems. POS, allergy information, and stock and reconciliation systems all had to be updated on time, across the brands.

The result was a simpler, shorter process, with an agreed plan for sites and teams to adopt it.

What we did
  • Mapped the existing processes across the brands
  • Identified where the process could be simplified
  • Found stakeholders who were missing from the process or aligned to the wrong step
  • Created new processes and secured buy-in from the people who would run them
  • Shortened timelines
  • Built an implementation plan so teams could adopt the change

Who This Is For

Ideal for organisations experiencing:

Growth outpacing structure
Rework, duplication, or recurring operational issues
Slow or unclear handovers between teams
Leaders operating too far into the detail
Confusion around roles, responsibilities, and decision rights
Inconsistent standards or delivery quality
Teams feeling stretched, reactive, or overwhelmed

How We Work

1
Diagnose where friction occurs. We speak with leaders and teams, observe how work happens, and trace the root causes of delay, inconsistency, and unnecessary complexity.
2
Map the core flow of work. We follow work from end to end, so redesign effort goes where it will make the biggest difference.
3
Clarify roles, decisions, and handovers. We make sure the right people make the right decisions at the right time, with less escalation, confusion, and duplication.
4
Simplify processes and set standards. We remove steps that add no value, agree clear standards, and fit processes to the organisation's current stage and scale.
5
Establish an operating rhythm. We agree meeting cadences, reporting lines, and communication routines that support confident, proactive delivery.

What’s Included

Every organisation is different, so we shape the work around where you are now. Depending on your situation, it may include:

  • A clear picture of where work slows down, and why

  • A map of how work really flows from start to finish

  • Clear roles, so everyone knows who decides what

  • Simpler processes, with unnecessary steps removed

  • Smoother handovers between teams

  • Agreed standards for how things are done

  • A regular rhythm of meetings and reporting that suits your business

  • Support for leaders to make the changes stick

30 years’ experience across multi site, PE-backed, and transformational environments. 20+ years at senior executive and board level.

If the friction sits in how leaders lead as much as how work flows, The Leadership Impact System offers evidence-based insight at individual, team, and board level.

Where is friction slowing your organisation down?

Before we begin any piece of work, we take time for an initial conversation, either a 30-minute Teams call or a longer face-to-face discussion. It helps us understand your situation and confirm we are the right fit.
